Enemies: villains & minions

How the game-controlled villain and minions fight, draw and use their decks.

Updated about 1 month ago · 1 min

Enemies are opposing fighters controlled by the game. The main enemy is the villain ; the others are minions . They behave like heroes and sidekicks , but effects that refer specifically to “heroes” or “sidekicks” do not affect villains or minions. Effects that refer to “fighters” affect enemies as normal.

Action cards

Each enemy has its own deck of action cards. All enemy cards are versatile and can attack or defend, but unlike normal versatile cards they have separate attack and defense values . In combat , use the attack value when the enemy attacks and the defense value when it defends; while a card is in the deck or “hand ”, use its attack value. Many cards also carry effects.

Enemy hands & discarding

Enemies have no hand of cards. If an effect would reveal or look at an enemy’s hand, look at the top card of its deck instead. If an enemy must discard cards, move that many cards from the top of its deck into its discard pile.

Movement

Enemies may move through other enemies, but not through heroes or sidekicks. Some effects place an enemy on the “closest empty starting space ” — the closest starting space without a fighter.

Deception cards

Each enemy has a Deception card in its deck. Whenever it is put into the enemy’s discard pile, shuffle that discard pile (including the Deception card) back into the deck. This always resolves and cannot be canceled. If it happens mid-combat, shuffle immediately but leave out the card the enemy is using in combat; discard that card afterward.
