Q: What is the change? How does it work?
Fighters are still defeated as per the normal rules. The endgame change only affects when you check if there is a winner. By the previous rules, the game immediately ends when the penultimate hero is defeated (in 1v1 and FFA, when there is only 1 hero side remaining, in 2v2 when there is only 1 team remaining). Now, you only check if there is a winner at the end of the After Combat effects. IMPORTANT: Active players win in cases where both heroes are defeated; the order in which heroes are defeated does not matter for the endgame check.
Q: What is the change? How does it work?
The team has been working on refining the explanation of some of the niche interactions in the game. One of these is how the effect ‘End the Turn’ interacts with the game. It causes the game to stop processing any effects when it happens, and jump directly to the ‘Cleanup Step’ for that action, and then proceed onto the ‘End of Turn Step’ of the turn. By reviewing the detailed ability descriptions in the rulebook and applying the logic of consistently resolving the Cleanup Step, the following ability rulings apply.
Q: What does it mean when a player is Dormant?
Whether or not a player is Dormant is checked at the end of an action. If a player has no fighters remaining on the board, that player is Dormant. This is largely to make sure that weird edge cases where player can get effects after they die function in line with the expectation of the new End Game rules. Dormant Players don't take actions during their turn, draw cards or discard cards, their fighters can't take damage , and they can't be chosen as an opponent or be affected by anything that affects all opponents.
Q: What is the change? How does it work?
Placement effects that do not specify Other or Empty can choose a space with a fighter in it.. If you choose a space that already has a fighter, then the placement would then not happen, because you can't place into that space. This means that fighters can stay in their current space as a result. (See: Hyde's Pure Evil scheme .) This is a correction of the prior ruling that would force the fighter to leave their current space if a mandatory Placement effect happened. Now if an effect doesn't clarify ‘other/empty’ for the space, the space your are in is a ‘legal’ choice and choosing it simply causes the placement effect to fail since the space is occupied.
